Resilience Diaries
A Research Project for Craft Scotland in response to Covid 19 Lockdown
With the Resilience Diary focus I have been reassessing the way I have been operating through Lockdown with an artistic intent, making sense of it from a new perspective. I realise now that the intent was always there, it was observing, ingesting and growing into a mature form……It seems currently my role, as an arts practitioner is that of observer, of witness, of archivist, of researcher and of storyteller. This will change as I go forward into a making stage but I feel I currently need to acquiesce to the dominance of nature and time and to acknowledge their potency in how we live.
I am preoccupied with the weaving together of these objects, - the historical narratives of the nest, the eggs, the walking stick and my engagement with them- that have come together to make this piece. It is beautiful to me and embodies a sense of renewal through narrative, through combined histories, combined possibilities and complexities of stories.
It seems to me to capture where we stand and the possibility of going forward.
